A notorious Syracuse apartment complex has new owners. Can they turn things around? One of the new owners of Parkside Commons was in Syracuse Friday to meet with city officials when havoc erupted at the sprawling low-income housing complex. A vandal made his way to the roof of one of the buildings and cut a copper pipe in the utility room, sending water streaming down through the four-story structure. It’s one of many challenges the new owners face: Through Nov. 11 of this year, police were called to the complex 608 times.

Woman sentenced to prison for fatal Syracuse stabbing: A Syracuse woman cried in court on Tuesday as she apologized for fatally stabbing a 13-year-old girl during a fight in 2021. Xomara Diaz, now 19, pleaded guilty in August to first-degree manslaughter in the the 2021 death of Naj’ee Wright during a fight with a group of girls. Diaz, who was 16 years old at the time of the stabbing, was sentenced to prison on Tuesday.

SU hangs on — barely — for win over Colgate: For the second time in as many games this season, Syracuse found itself in a nail-biter against a non-conference opponent that would normally serve as early season fodder. Following an unexpectedly close 86-82 win over Le Moyne in its season opener last week, Syracuse had to white-knuckle its way to a 74-72 win over Colgate on Tuesday at the JMA Wireless Dome. Colgate had three chances to win or tie the game in the final seconds.
