Five commercial buildings, a garage, housing: 13,000 m2 demolished
Epase began a large-scale project this year to demolish the commercial wastelands on rue des Rochettes, below rue de la Montat, which have disfigured the eastern entrance to the city for four years now and the opening of Steel.
The old Tati store was the first to be razed last spring, along with four small residential houses located on the rue Marc-Charras side. And for the past month, it is the building which housed the Générale d'optique and Chaussea which has been deconstructed. It should have disappeared from the landscape by the end of the year, just like the HLM Alliade building which is located in the middle of the old stores (inside which it was not possible to salvage much because it had been set on fire).
Chats are still stuck with Optical Center
At the beginning of 2025, the demolition of the Rivat garage (with which an agreement was finally reached after years of standoff) and the adjoining house will begin. The first commercial building at the beginning of the street will then have to be demolished. Cleaning work has started in the part which hosted Picard (which moved in the summer of 2023 to the gallery of the ex-Géant Monthieu). But negotiations are still continuing with the last business on rue des Rochettes, Optical Center, which is blocking the file.
Finally, logically, it is the old Gémo building, where the materials library is located, which should be razed last.
A cost of 1.8 million euros
In total, there are some 13,000 m2 of floor space which will have been demolished in this sector. An operation costing 1.8 million euros for Epase (with support from the Green Fund).
If nothing specific has yet been decided, the objective is to reclassify the area to install industrial and artisanal activities.
