Several massifs found themselves covered in snow on Tuesday November 12. The drop in temperatures and the return of humidity partly explain the arrival of snow at this time of year 2024.

We were expecting them in the Southern Alps, the first snows of the season came to sprinkle the massifs of the region in mid-mountains on the night of Monday 11 to Tuesday 12 November 2024. According to BFMTV, the alliance between the drop in temperatures and the return of humidity allowed the occurrence of snow on certain mid-mountain massifs.

Snow “fits on roads from approximately 1400/1500 m”explains meteorologist Gaétan Heymes on X. “Inforoute webcam captures in Auron, Estenc, Praloup and Puy Saint Vincent”he explains.

Regions placed on yellow snow-ice alert

The snowfall had some consequences on traffic, around twenty trucks were blocked on the national 94 on the French side, BFM DICI noted. Heavy goods vehicles weighing more than 26 tonnes can no longer access the Col de Montgenèvre in both directions of traffic. Also, the Hautes-Alpes and the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence are placed on snow-ice yellow vigilance by Météo- until mid-afternoon this Tuesday, November 12, 2024.

According to meteorologist Paul Marquis, “we will have to wait until Wednesday for the sun to return everywhere in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region after the passage of this cold drop”.
