Jorge Sampaoli is the new coach of Stade Rennais. The club made it official this Monday, November 11 at the end of the evening, putting an end to a false suspense. The Argentinian was present at Roazhon Park on Sunday to witness the defeat of the Rouge et Noir against Toulouse (0-2) and had already reached an agreement several days ago with the Rennes leaders.
Aged 64, Sampaoli was free after the end of his contract at Flamengo (Brazil) in September 2023. He is returning to France, since he had coached OM in 2021-2022. A character with a fiery temperament, an experienced trainer, he arrives in Brittany with a lot of work to do to allow the SRFC to get back on track.

President Arnaud Pouille commented on the club's official website: “We are all very happy that Jorge is joining us because he is a coach recognized on the international scene for his professionalism and his humanism. He has a strong attachment to his players and his colleagues, he is a loyal and committed man. During our discussions, we immediately appreciated his love of the game and his desire to defend a collective project. The vision of Jorge and his staff regarding the structuring of a group is clear and the entire sports management shares the same analysis on what we must put in place: taste for work, demanding effort, loyalty , respect for people and the institution. »
Sampaoli arrives with three deputies: Diogo Meschine, Pablo Fernandez and Marcos Fernandez. The first is his field assistant, the one who leads the sessions and actively participates in the composition of the team. He had already accompanied Sampaoli to Marseille and Seville.
The second became known to the general public for bloodshed: during their visit to OM, he had hit a Nice supporter who had entered the pitch (Nice – OM, August 2021), then had punched one of his players at Flamengo, leading to his dismissal.

Finally, Marcos Fernandez is Pablo's son and occupies the position of physical trainer. Sampaoli is committed until June 2026.
