Sold out on Sunday evening, Parc OL brought together 58,082 spectators for the derby against AS Saint-Etienne. The Decin venue did not set its attendance record for an OL match, but for a derby.
In the narrow success (1-0) against theAS Saint-Etiennethe players of theOL admitted to having drawn part of their mental resources from the support of the supporters for 90 minutes. The return of the derby was inevitably awaited by all the people of Lyon and they responded. By encouragement, but also by numbers. Despite places limited to MyOL subscribers and supporters, the club had no problem filling the Decin venue for this 125th derby in history. The 1,600 places usually reserved for visitor parking quickly found takers during the week and a sold-out OL Park presented itself to the 22 players in this OL – ASSE (1-0).
58,230, score to beat for an OL match
Without Saint-Etienne fans, unfortunately, the Rhone stadium was still able to enter the record books with a historic attendance for a derby. 58,069 spectators came in February 2018 for the derby. On Sunday evening, there were thirteen more to bring this total to 58,082 spectators. A record in a derby, but which will not supplant that for a match of theOL in Décines. The coming of PSG in September 2022 still remains the benchmark with 58,230 supporters present. We will certainly have to wait for the arrival of the Parisian club or the next derby to hope to break this record. Barring a distant run in the Europa League…
