A spectacular truck accident occurred around 10 a.m. this Monday, November 25, 2024 on the A47 south of Lyon near Ternay (Rhône) in the Saint-Etienne/Lyon direction just after the Givors bridge.
The trailer of the heavy goods vehicle overturned in the middle of the track, probably due to the violent winds currently occurring on the Rhône. The trailer was lifted and ended up in an awkward position on the road.
The department is currently placed on orange alert due to gusts from Storm Bert.
The A47 closed, major traffic jams in progress
The accident took place at the Chasse-sur-Rhône exit and caused major traffic jams. The A47 is closed in the Saint-Etienne direction towards the metropolis of Lyon.
The prefecture of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region has also taken restrictive measures targeting the circulation of trucks weighing more than 7.5 tonnes in the Rhône department. They “are not authorized to carry out overtaking maneuvers on national roads and motorways from midnight and until the orange vigilance is lifted”.
