The replacement for Rúben Amorim, who will move to Manchester United, in technical command of the Sporting Football team will be presented today at the José Alvalade Stadium.
In a ceremony scheduled for 12pm, in the VIP Hall of the José Alvalade Stadium, the name of the new coach of the leaders of the Portuguese First Football League will be made official, with the Portuguese press reporting that it will be João Pereira, coach of the ‘lions’ B team, which competes in League 3.
Rúben Amorim arrived at Sporting during the 2019/20 season and to date has played 231 games in all competitions, winning five trophies, with emphasis on the titles in the I League in 2020/21 and 2023/24.
This season, after losing the Super Cup in extra time to FC Porto (4-3), Sporting recorded 11 consecutive victories, equaling their best start ever in the championship, which dated back to 1990/91, then under the command by Brazilian Marinho Peres.
The ‘lions’ lead the championship alone, with 33 points, six more than FC Porto and eight than Benfica (one game less), in addition to being second in the league phase of the Champions League.
