Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado shared his thoughts on a controversial moment in the match against Real Sociedad, specifically about a goal disallowed for Robert Lewandowski.
Casado was informed that there might have been an error involving Nayef Aguerd’s boot, which led to the offside call that nullified Lewandowski’s goal when the score was still 0-0.
According to Casado, the issue could be whether it was indeed Lewandowski’s foot or Aguerd’s that crossed the line. If it turns out that the decision was incorrect, it would mean the goal was actually legal, which would be a serious matter for the league to address.
“The League will have to review whether it was Lewandowski’s foot or not. It would be serious if they disallowed a goal that was actually legal,” he said.
Although Casado didn’t see the incident live, he expressed confidence that clarity would eventually emerge on whether it was truly an offside.
“I haven’t seen it live, but I’ve been told about it. Sooner or later it will be known if it was offside,” he added.
Thoughts on the game
Reflecting on the overall game, Casado acknowledged that the team struggled under Real Sociedad’s pressure. He admitted that even when Barcelona managed to break through, they lacked precision in delivering the final pass, a flaw that limited their chances.
“It was hard for us to get out of their pressure, and when we did, we weren’t sharp with the final pass. It’s a difficult pitch where you can lose, but I’m sure we’ll recover and react.”
The midfielder also took a moment to comment on his recent call-up to the Spanish national team. For him, this selection fulfilled a lifelong ambition.
“I am very happy to be called up to the national team, it is a childhood dream, I am going to make the most of the opportunity,” he noted.
Inaki Pena's analysis
Barcelona goalkeeper Inaki Pena also weighed in on the disallowed goal controversy. He emphasised the importance of accurate decisions in such crucial moments, highlighting the role of VAR technology and line markings in making fair calls.
The keeper called on the league to investigate the situation thoroughly, as any error regarding Lewandowski’s positioning would be significant.
According to him, if a mistake occurred, the league should take appropriate action to ensure fairness, reinforcing the purpose of VAR and accurate officiating in such high-stakes matches.
“If there is a possible error in the marking of Lewandowski ‘s foot, an error so clear and so serious, the League should act because that’s what the VAR is for, that’s what the lines that draw are for and if it was a mistake, let it be proven and investigated and let them act,” he noted.
