Will the French government take inspiration from Donald Trump? The Minister of the Civil Service, Simplification and Transformation of Public Action, Guillaume Kasbarian, addressed his “Congratulations” to Elon Musk, Wednesday November 13, after the announcement of the billionaire's appointment as head of a new Ministry of Government Effectiveness in the United States. The businessman was tasked by the US president-elect with “dismantle government bureaucracy, slash excessive regulations, cut wasteful spending, and restructure federal agencies”.
In a message published in English on the X platform, owned by Elon Musk, Guillaume Kasbarian said he “looking forward to sharing good practices” with its future counterpart in terms of “bureaucracy excessive”, as well as for “reduce paperwork and rethinking public organizations in the service of the efficiency of public agents”.
“Are we congratulating Elon Musk? No, really, that’s not possible”replied the former Macronist Minister of Health Aurélien Rousseau, now socialist deputy for Yvelines, on X. “One more line is crossed”he lamented, seeing in the minister's message “one more defeat for republican principles and values”.
A week after a tense meeting with Guillaume Kasbarian, the eight trade union organizations representing the Civil Service must meet on Thursday to decide on the contours of an upcoming mobilization and a possible strike movement. FO and the CGT have already called for “strike”while the 2025 budget provides for 1.2 billion euros in savings for the civil service, in particular by extending the waiting period and reducing sick leave compensation.
