Alert regarding the high percentage of players who could suffer tears in both knees.

Doctor Pedro Luis Ripoll from ‘Ripoll y De Prado Sport Clinic, FIFA Medical Excellence Center’, has analyzed the serious injury suffered by Brazilian national player and Real Madrid defender, Eder Militao, to his right knee this past Saturday.

Ripoll classifies Militao’s injury as “serious” due to the anterior ligament tear and meniscus damage. He points out a concerning statistic: between 12% and 15% of footballers may sequentially experience anterior cruciate ligament injuries in both knees, similar to what has occurred with the Brazilian player.

“There are factors related to each individual’s joint structure and their morphotype that contribute to this elevated rate of concurrent injuries,” explains the doctor.

Ripoll adds that the meniscal injuries, which will require suturing, will prolong the recovery time for the Real Madrid player. However, he emphasizes that the prognosis is “optimistic”, as medical science currently has more than acceptable solutions for this type of injury.
