FC Bayern wins in Hamburg, Bayer Leverkusen drops two points. Borussia Dortmund has even bigger problems in Mainz. In Bremen people celebrate late.
FC Bayern mastered the mandatory task at FC St. Pauli and extended their lead in the table, at least for a few hours. The Munich team won 1-0 (1-0) on Saturday afternoon, and in the evening (6.30 p.m./Sky) RB Leipzig can reduce the gap to three points with a win against Borussia Mönchengladbach. After conceding a late goal, pursuers Bayer Leverkusen only managed a 1-1 (1-0) draw at VfL Bochum, where coach Dieter Hecking had a successful premiere.
Borussia Dortmund, on the other hand, slipped in the Bundesliga table, BVB lost 1:3 (1:2) at FSV Mainz 05 and is only seventh. In the northern duel, Werder Bremen won 2-1 (1-0) against Holstein Kiel.
Musiala in strong form – Leverkusen misses the win
Jamal Musiala scored for Bayern in the 22nd minute with a strong shot from a good 25 meters. As a result, the Munich team were clearly superior, but failed to score the second goal early on. The Hamburg hosts kept up well in the second half, but hardly created any compelling chances.
Leverkusen clearly dominated the game in Bochum four days after losing 4-0 in the Champions League at Liverpool. Patrik Schick gave Bayer the lead in the 18th minute. The assist came from Florian Wirtz, who was once again his team’s outstanding player. Nevertheless, Bayer had to accept the equalizer: Koji Miyoshi (89th) scored for the outsiders shortly before the end.
Red and goals conceded for BVB
Dortmund captain Emre Can weakened his team in the first half with a hard foul on Jae-Sung Lee, referee Florian Badstübner immediately showed the red card (27th). Ten minutes later, Jonathan Burkardt (37′) gave Mainz the lead before Lee on the other side caused a penalty with a foul on Serhou Guirassy. The fouled man didn’t miss the chance to equalize in the 40th minute.
Burkardt again (45th + 3) rewarded the FSV for their courageous performance before the break. After the third Mainz goal by Paul Nebel (54th), things became very difficult for Dortmund.
Jens Stage (36th) was successful for Bremen in the northern duel, the 28-year-old scored from a good 25 meters. Romano Schmid then also scored a goal, but the goal was disallowed due to a handball (39′). Phil Harres (48th) equalized for Kiel after the break. The promoted team then got stronger, but Oliver Burke (89th) made Bremen’s victory perfect.
