“Yaël, accomplice”; “Yaël, get out of there”; “Murdering Israel”; “Free Palestine”. Written with spray paint, these messages are only a very small sample of the tags that have been made in recent hours at the entrance to the Tobacco factory campus. On the walls and on the floor, there are tens of them. And the main target of the damage is clear: Yaël Braun-Pivet.
Presented as inveterate support for Israel's policy in the Middle East
The President of the National Assembly is, in fact, expected in Lyon III, this Friday, November 8, from 5 p.m. to exchange with students from the Poli'Gones association. However, the MP for Yvelines, who has occupied the post since 2022, is presented by several left-wing movements as inveterate support for the policy pursued by Israel in the Middle East. Its presence within the University of Lyon is therefore clearly not desired by them.
“If she happens to be an eminent figure of the French State, she is first and foremost the eminent figure of unconditional support for the criminal actions of the Israeli State”, denounce Unef, the Young Rebels of the Metropolis of Lyon, Solidaires Étudiants, the collective supporting Palestine or even Young Anti-Fascist Guard in a joint press release.
“That there are students who demonstrate, it is their right”
Before justifying their accusations: “While the deaths caused by Israel's operations number in the tens of thousands, Yaël Braun-Pivet once again dared to defend the delivery of weapons on October 6 […]even going against a statement by Emmanuel Macron. »
These tags augur a virulent welcome this Friday evening for the President of the National Assembly. But the 4e State figure does not seem to want to give up debating with the students.
During a stroll in Neuville-sur-Saône, Yaël Braun-Pivet said she was open to discussions with her detractors:
“That there are students demonstrating is their absolute right. I hope I will have the opportunity to take a few moments to explain my position and hear theirs. This is how I see the democratic debate. »
