Minister Göktaş, in his speech at the 6th International Women and Justice Summit, organized by the Women and Democracy Foundation (KADEM) at Haliç University with the theme “Artificial Intelligence and Women” and attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, talked about technology, innovation and artificial intelligence. He said that they will talk and consult about how the fields of intelligence will gain strength with the active participation of women.
Stating that women in Turkey have become stronger with the revolutionary reforms carried out under the leadership of President Erdoğan, Göktaş said, “We believe that women taking active roles in the fields of artificial intelligence and technology will accelerate Turkey’s development in the digitalizing world.” he said.
Göktaş noted that the opportunities offered by artificial intelligence today arouse great curiosity and that while it provides opportunities such as speed, accessibility and diversity, it also brings risks such as inequality between men and women, unfair competition, information pollution and obstruction of accurate information.
“In order to minimize these risks, it is of great importance that artificial intelligence technologies are developed in a transparent, fair and accessible manner.” Göktaş said that the use of developing technology by the wrong hands increases the possibility of new types of violence emerging.
Minister Göktaş said, “We witnessed the use of digital devices such as remote-controlled phones as weapons in Gaza and Lebanon. In the face of these destructive developments, we will always continue to stand by the Palestinian people to defend human dignity and peace.” he said.
Pointing out that they will never accept the Israeli administration’s oppression of the Palestinian people, especially women and children, Göktaş stated that they will continue their solidarity for a world where technology and artificial intelligence are used to protect and improve human life.
Stating that the ways of working will change dramatically in the next 20 years, Göktaş said, “New job descriptions and career routes will redefine our lifestyles. In this process, creativity, adaptation and lifelong learning skills will be the determining factor in the success of people and societies. Stating that women in the world are 30 percent in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, defined as “STEM”, which constitute the infrastructure of advanced technologies, and 26 percent in the artificial intelligence workforce, Göktaş said that the representation rate of women in Turkey in this field is 20 percent.
