The requisitions fall against the 50 accused and Dominique Pelicot, in the Mazan rape case. After 2 and a half months of this sprawling trial, 12 years in prison were requested against Redouane A, unemployed, aged 45, who denied the facts at the bar, with socio-judicial monitoring of 8 years upon exit with 4 years incurred if non-compliance. For this accused, the attorney general asks to retain the alteration of discernment which had been concluded by an expert psychiatrist. “Otherwise the sentence could have been higher“, taking into account the two acts with which he is accused and his positioning, specifies the attorney general.
When investigators showed him the video titled “well violated“in which he appeared, Redouane A. said he was shocked by the title. Not by its content which he qualified”of natural act“, related the file.
This forty-year-old born in Morocco and abandoned by his mother, grew up wandering from one city to another, carries a heavy record of 19 convictions, including one for domestic violence; when the investigators wanted to question him, it was at Salon prison that they found him. This father cut off from his children claimed a diagnosis of schizophrenia, which was recognized by a psychiatric assessment. Then dismissed by a second opinion, not considering the alteration of his discernment. According to Dominique Pelicot, Redouane A. tried to blackmail him the day after a second rape perpetrated in Mazan.
The accused told him that voices had told him “go ahead, go ahead, it’s to please them“, before his coming to Mazan. “hallucinations that seem inauthentic“, according to the second psychiatrist, who had also retained a “total contempt for others, his sole personal interest and archaic beliefs which want a husband to dispose of his wife's body as he wishes“.
Since September 2, 2024, 50 men and the main accused Dominique Pelicot have been tried by the Vaucluse Departmental Criminal Court. All are accused of rape or sexual assault on Gisèle Pelicot, acts orchestrated by her ex-husband who recruited on the Coco.gg site, closed since June 2024. Around twenty other rapists are counted but they have never were identified and therefore did not answer for their actions.
