Soon a new free service on the TCL network and a boost for families who use public transport in the metropolis of Lyon and even beyond.
Sytral will soon vote in favor of making several networks free (TCL, Cars du Rhône and Réseau Libellule) for young users aged less than 10 years.
Free for children aged 10 and under
The environmentalist president of the Metropolis and Sytral Bruno Bernard announced the news this Friday, November 8, 2024 on social networks. The TCL network is currently free for children aged 4 and under. Free access will therefore be extended to those aged up to 10 years old from September 1, 2025.
“We are going to propose to the Sytral Council that all children under the age of 10, with a free pass, can travel for free across the entire TCL + Cars du Rhône + Réseau Libellule network,” writes Bruno Bernard.
The Cars du Rhône and Libellule networks also concerned
The Cars du Rhône network serves the municipalities in the north, west and south of the department all around the Lyon metropolitan area. The Libellule network circulates buses in the municipalities of the Villefranche-Beaujolais-Saône urban community.
This measure aims to make daily life easier for families by reducing their transport expenses, while making travel simpler and more accessible for family outings, activities and leisure activities, particularly on weekends. Thanks to this targeted free service, parents and children will be able to take full advantage of the transport offer to travel without constraints throughout the Metropolis and beyond, whether to go to school, visit their loved ones, or discover new places together.
Other freebies already apply on the TCL network: the Solidarity subscription reserved for residents of the Rhône under resource conditions (RSA beneficiaries, young active solidarity income, etc.).
The cost for the community of the new free provision for children has not yet been specified by Bruno Bernard.
