Andrija Maksimovic wants to show in the Champions League duel between Red Star Belgrade and FC Barcelona that he is “better” than child prodigy Lamine Yamal.

Maksimovic, nicknamed “Little Messi” for his technical finesse and dynamism, has quickly emerged as one of Serbia’s most promising young talents. Before the direct clash with Barça star Yamal, the Serbian, who is also only 17 years old, sent a declaration of war to the Spanish European champions.

“We met at the European Championships. A brilliant player as well [] Cubarsi. We are the same age, tomorrow I will show that I am better than him [Lamine Yamal]” Maksimovic told reporters.

When asked whether he felt nerves or fear before the encounter, the 17-year-old was calm and explained: “Of course I’m not nervous, that’s what I was waiting for. This is the Champions League, this is our stadium. The stands will be will be full and I’m happy that I’ll be playing against the great FC Barcelona.”
