BVB coach Nuri Sahin is using the same first eleven against Graz as against Leipzig. Emre Can and Nico Schlotterbeck start again in central defense. Marcel Sabitzer can also start from the start. As expected, Serhou Guirassy starts in the storm. Like against Leipzig, Waldemar Anton is out, the same applies to keeper Gregor Kobel.

“Today would actually be a good day to swap one or two guys. We have a lot of aches and pains, but on the other hand it’s also about rhythm,” emphasized Sahin before kick-off DAZN.

Despite staffing concerns, the program must now be carried through with rigor until the international break. “Then the boys go on a trip around the world and we can take a breather.”

When asked about Felix Nmecha, Sahin went into raptures. “He has an interesting overall package. He is not a typical strategist who directs the game from a standing start. He has a lot of dynamism and a profile that you actually have to look for a very, very long time to find. We are lucky that he plays for us,” said the BVB coach happily.

Bayern loanee Lovro Zvonarek didn’t make it into the starting lineup for Graz.

BVB hopes for compensation after Real bankruptcy

After the bitter 2:5 defeat against Real Madrid, Sahin’s team is looking for redemption. A win against Graz could give BVB a big step towards the Champions League round of 16. Before the defeat in Madrid, Dortmund had won their opening two games against Club Brugge and Celtic Glasgow and had slipped from first place to eleventh. The first eight teams qualify directly for the round of 16.

In Madrid, BVB had the game clearly under control in the first half and led 2-0 after goals from Jamie Gittens and Donyell Malen. In the second half, the Whites turned up the heat and achieved a clear 5-2 win after a hat-trick from Vinicius Junior and goals from Antonio Rüdiger and Lucas Vazquez. Since then, BVB has suffered a series of defeats, including in Augsburg and in the DFB Cup against Wolfsburg.

BVB wins the dress rehearsal against Leipzig

On the last Bundesliga matchday, Borussia celebrated a 2-1 win against RB Leipzig and was able to put an end to the negative trend. However, BVB continues to be plagued by bad luck with injuries. Against RB, the Bundesliga club was missing up to ten professionals due to injuries.

Before the duel against BVB, the Austrian champions from Graz are still without points after three games. After defeats against Stade (1:2), Club Brugge (0:1) and Sporting Lisbon (0:2), the club finds itself in 32nd place out of 36 teams.
