On the eve of the American presidential election on November 5, Donald Trump is attempting a spectacular return to the White House, despite his legal setbacks. Portrait of an extraordinary character who shook up American politics.

Born June 14, 1946 in Queens, New York, Donald Trump came from a wealthy family, son of real estate mogul Fred Trump. After studying at the University of Pennsylvania, he took over the family business which he renamed the Trump Organization, building a real estate empire valued today at $7.5 billion by Forbes.

His career is not limited to real estate. Trump becomes a real celebrity, casino owner, beauty pageant organizer and reality star with “The Apprentice”. His career, however, is punctuated by controversies, including six business bankruptcies and accusations of tax evasion.

His presidency (2017-2021) had a profound impact on the United States: withdrawal from major international agreements, trade war with China, migration restrictions, and the “Abraham Accords” in the Middle East. His mandate ends in turmoil with the contestation of the results of the 2020 election and the assault on the Capitol on January 6, 2021. Despite a historic indictment in the Stormy Daniels affair and an assassination attempt in July 2024, Trump retains considerable influence within the Republican Party. At age 78, he attempted a return to the presidency, demonstrating exceptional political resilience in the face of legal and personal obstacles.
