This Monday is a day a little sadder than usual with the disappearance of Quincy Jones. The producer died yesterday, “surrounded by his family”, as confirmed by his family.
If Quincy Jones will undoubtedly remain, for the general public, associated with the success of Michael Jackson's three major albums (Off the Wall, Thriller et Bad) for his production work, the entire profession and well beyond is affected by his disappearance. Because the man was not only a musician, he also produced several films, including The Color Purple – the 1985 Oscar-nominated one and its 2023 remake – or even the sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. He also composed the soundtrack for the 1969 film Gold is disappearingwith Michael Caine, who paid tribute to him. The two artists were born a few hours apart, on March 14, 1933.
Limitless
“My celestial twin Quincy was a titan of the Music world. He was a wonderful and unique human being, I am lucky to have known him,” the actor wrote on his Twitter/X account.

Colman Domingo, who starred in the 2023 remake of The Color Purplefor his part remembered their meeting. “He asked me where I was from. I said Philadelphia and his eyes lit up and he talked about the Uptown Theater. I was so over the moon to meet Mr. American Music in person. I knelt down because he was the king. Thank you Mr. Quincy Jones for all the music you have given us,” he wrote on his social media.
Bob Sinclar shared a photo of the two of them and captioned it, “Your soul is gone but your legacy will live on, King Quincy Jones.”
Very close to France
Nikos Aliagas, for his part, recalled the very strong ties which linked Quincy Jones to France. The producer moved there in 1957 and studied music with Nadia Boulanger, director of the American Conservatory of Fontainebleau. He had also become friends with Eddie Barclay and worked with many French artists.
“Johnny Hallyday was 17 when I hired him, he was with Sylvie Vartan at the time, he's a big star today… Henri Salvador too, we made seven albums together, but also Charles Aznavour, Jacques Brel… Really, I feel at home, with all these artists we went to the Barclay studios together,” he declared on the air of Europe 1 in 2014 when he was made Commander of the Legion of Honor .
Playwright Jeremy O. Harris recalled that “Quincy Jones was born at a time when young black boys could only have limited dreams and he taught us that limits did not exist. “, adding that he was one of the rare “EGOT”, that is to say to have received the four main awards of the entertainment industry: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award.
A tribute that echoes that of rapper LL Cool J, for whom Quincy Jones was “a father and an example”. Nile Rodgers called Quincy Jones “the greatest of all time.” Lionel Richie shared a photo of them on Instagram, praising the journey, adding “with love always”. Snoop Dogg also relayed several anonymous tributes to Quincy Jones in his Instagram Stories.
