The intense rains that fell this Monday morning in Baix Llobregat have flooded streets and roads and have surprised some drivers who, despite the red alert issued by Civil Protection, were traveling at that time.
The streets of towns such as Castelldefels and Gavà have been flooded and the authorities have warned of service cuts and interruptions. In Castelldefels, the city council has reported through its Twitter account that “all municipal activities have been suspended until 3:00 p.m..” In addition, they also confirm that “all municipal facilities have been closed until the same time.”
In Gavà, the council highlights that the industrial area has been flooded and there have been cuts on several roads due to the amount of accumulated water.
Many users have uploaded images of cars trying to move through flooded streets to social networks, while some have posted videos of the state of some cars that have been trapped on the C-32, near the Olympic Canal, in Castelldefels.
Civil Protection has sent a mobile alert in Baix Llobregat asking citizens to take extreme precautions, avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from streams and ravines in the forecast of continued and torrential rains.
The alert, which was received around 8:30 a.m., also indicates that even if it does not rain, the streams and ravines can lower with intensity and landslides can also occur. The forecast of continued and torrential rains may last an hour. The deputy director of Civil Protection Programs, Sergio Delgado, has asked in statements to Catalunya Ràdio “not to leave the house and not to go to work” in the warning area until the alert ends.
