The video went viral on social media. A month after the bad buzz, the municipal councilor of (Seine-Saint-Denis), Kévin Cohen, resigned from office. In a press release published Thursday October 31, 2024, the city mayor announced the decision of the elected representative of the majority who “expresses his regrets and apologize ».

On October 6, Kévin Cohen was filmed during a conference on Palestine organized in Pantin by the collective “Urgence Palestine” and the media Paroles d’honneur. Installed on the ground, almost lying down, he was shown screaming and criant « on me tape » before a standing person contradicts him. Effectively, the elected official who is also an activist of the Union of Jewish Students of (UEJF), intervened with several members of the association to disrupt the meeting.

The UEJF's X account had published several snippets of the meeting to denounce the violence committed against its activists.

“Take the time to analyze the facts”

“For several weeks, a video circulating on social networks, involving Kévin Cohen, municipal councilor and member of the municipal majority of Romainville, has sparked a legitimate reaction of incomprehension and indignation within our city,” explains the city’s mayor in a press release. “I preferred to take the time to analyze the facts, to listen to different points of view and to consult before making any decision and expressing myself publicly,” explains the councilor who did not react immediately after the publishing videos.

Two meetings with Kévin Cohen followed before agreeing on an incompatibility “with his duties and responsibilities as a municipal elected official”.

Kévin Cohen has made the decision to resign from his mandate as municipal councilor. He expresses his regrets and apologizes. Tired of the violence he suffered on social networks and aware of the emotion that his actions may have provoked, he shows responsibility.
