In Dordogne, a hunt in Coly-Saint-Amand was synonymous with drama on Sunday. A 49-year-old hunter was found dead in this town with a gunshot wound, according to information from France Bleu Périgord.
The body was found at the edge of a path near cornfields, along the Chironde stream. He was taking part in a hunt with one of the village's hunting companies when the other hunters heard a gunshot.
The other hunters tried to resuscitate him
According to information from France Bleu, the hunters found the victim “with a gunshot wound to the abdomen”. Even before the firefighters and SAMU arrived, they tried to resuscitate him, but in vain.
According to the Périgueux public prosecutor's office, the victim “presents an injury appearing to come from a gunshot”. But the prosecutor adds that “the circumstances of the death remain to be determined”. Unable to comment on the origin of the tragedy, the prosecutor therefore opened an investigation into the causes of death. And to find out more, an autopsy will be carried out.
The mayor thinks it was an accident
If the gendarmes are not currently favoring any leads, the mayor of the town Vincent Geoffroid is leaning towards an “accident”, “perhaps a mishandling of his rifle”. The elected official, who went to school with the victim, concedes however that “no one knows what happened”.
According to France Bleu, “Franck, the victim, was a farmer, he lived with his parents on the farm a few hundred meters from the scene of the accident”. He raised sheep and ducks.
