Tajon Buchanan is targeting his first minutes of the season for Inter Milan against Venezia, whilst Kristjan Asllani should be back against Arsenal or Napoli.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report on the duo’s reintroduction to the pitch after returning from injury.
Inter have been dealing with a number of injury issues over the last few weeks.
The most high profile have concerned midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu and defender Francesco Acerbi.
Then, wingback Carlos Augusto picked up a thigh problem during Inter’s Champions League win over Young Boys.
However, these have not been the only players out.
Wingback Tajon Buchanan has been coming back to fitness.
It has hardly been notable to see the Canadian on the injury list. He has been out for the entire season so far recovering from a leg break he suffered during the summer.
And Kristjan Asllani has been nominally fit. But Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has decided against risking any minutes for the Albanian international, who’s been recovering from a knee knock.
In the case of Buchanan, the 25-year-old has been edging closer and closer to a return for a couple weeks now.
Buchanan was even in the matchday squad against Empoli on Wednesday.
This came after Buchanan made a long-awaited return to training.
However, against Empoli, the Canadian international did not feature for a single minute.
That could change in this evening’s Serie A clash with Venezia though. Inzaghi is ready to hand Buchanan his first appearance of the season as the former Club Brugge man gets back up to speed.
Meanwhile, midfielder Asllani will miss this evening’s match.
Particularly with Hakan Calhanoglu back, there is little reason to take any risks with the 22-year-old’s fitness.
But according to the Gazzetta, Asllani should be ready to play a part against either Arsenal in the Champions League or Napoli in Serie over the coming week.
