In Spain, the search for victims continues. Three days after the floods which caused at least 205 dead This week in southeastern Spain, military reinforcements were deployed in increasing numbers to deal with the chaos.
But in certain villages, the feeling of abandonment by the State dominates while dozens of people are still missing. In Alfafar, the residents have lost everything and are divided between despair and anger. Without electricity, food or water, they are still cut off from the world.
On site, solidarity is organized. With their bare hands, around ten of them try to clear a street blocked by a pile of piled-up vehicles: “We're all going to pull together, I hope we'll be able to move it,” explains one of them .
Left to their own devices, these residents have no crane, tractor, soldiers or firefighters to help them. With ropes and above all thanks to a collective effort and the strength of the arms, they pull on each side, “desperate” that the reinforcements do not come: “We are in the process of playing with the lives of many people. Fortunately, people from other towns are coming to help us otherwise it would be a total disaster.”
These victims do not want to and cannot give up but have the feeling of being abandoned by the Spanish State: “Here, we are at the good will of the hand of God. There is no official authority, no police. We are left to the will of the volunteers who are willing to help us,” laments a resident. To support them, there are thousands of volunteers. As a response to the absence of Spanish aid.
