“This is actually not possible”: Bus Deinze 3 hours on the road, players have barely 26 minutes to get ready
Far from the ideal preparation for a top match. Due to traffic jams, the Deinze player bus only arrived in Antwerp at 8:34 p.m., while the kick-off was originally scheduled for 8:45 p.m. Ultimately, the second division team was given fifteen minutes of extra time. “But getting off the bus in 26 minutes and being done is not possible.”
What could have been going through the minds of the Deinze players on the way to the Bosuil?
The time ticked away mercilessly, the team bus took no less than 3 hours. It suddenly became impossible to kick off the game – as planned – at 8:45 p.m.
The second division team did not arrive at the Antwerp stadium until 8.34 pm. At that moment, the start of the cup clash had already been postponed by fifteen minutes, but even that was actually a mission impossible.
“Getting off the bus in 26 minutes and being ready for this match is not possible,” said presenter Karl Vannieuwkerke.
“No, this is actually not possible,” Gert Verheyen agreed. “It is not ideal, certainly not in Antwerp. But sometimes something arises where you can still start a match well despite poor preparation.”
A glimmer of hope for the people of Deinzen?
The most important thing is that everyone on the bus remained calm.

Some may wonder why the party wasn’t moved up a little further. “But the home team also has a routine towards the match,” Vannieuwkerke explains.
“You can leave for 15 minutes, but not 45 minutes. That’s just not possible,” is the voice still heard at the table.
And so the people of Deinzen had to change clothes in no time. “The clothes used to be at the bottom of the bus,” joked Wesley Sonck.
Today that was clearly not the case. And so the battle seems to have become even more unequal. “Because it certainly plays a role that you get to this later,” Sonck confirms.
Although the analysts ultimately see an advantage. “It can be a motivation. You only have so much time to warm up and be ready, now show what you can do.”
“The most important thing is that everyone on the bus has remained calm. That they have not rushed themselves. And that is the job of the trainer. Although some can handle that better than others. In any case, they have less time here.” to get really nervous,” Verheyen winks.
