Seven people were arrested in Val-de-Marne, Hérault and Alpes-Maritimes. This police action, revealed by Franceinfo this Thursday, is the result of the investigation opened on July 31, into the cyberharassment suffered by the director of the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Thomas Jolly.
The suspects, aged 22 to 79, are six men and one woman. Five arrests took place on Tuesday, and the last one took place on Thursday. The judgment will take place next March.
A source close to the investigation relayed by Franceinfo explains that “some have worrying profiles”. One of the suspects is even described as a “professional hate”.
Cyberharassment was not just aimed at Thomas Jolly. Other artists, who worked on the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, were also targeted. They also suffered insults based on their sexual and religious orientation.
Those arrested risk heavy penalties for their acts of cyberharassment. In France, cyberharassment is severely punished. An online harasser risks up to 2 years in prison and a fine of 30,000 euros;
