Martina Bircher in the first interview after the election: “I’m happy to be able to press the button”
Martina Bircher has done it: She snatches the fifth government council seat behind the four previous ones. In doing so, she defends the SVP seat of her outgoing party colleague Alex Hürzeler.
Based on the analyzes and forecasts, it was expected that the National Councilor from Aarburg would make it into the Aargau government in the first round of voting. After years, Martina Bircher is again the first woman in the cantonal government. Most recently, the hapless Franziska Roth, also from the SVP, sat there. The government council is composed as follows:
- Markus Dieth (Mitte)
- Stephan Attiger (FDP)
- Jean-Pierre Gallati (SVP)
- Dieter Egli (SP)
- Martina Bircher (SVP, new)
With around 68,000 votes, Bircher received a good 20,000 votes more than her competitors Beat Flach (GLP) and Ruth Müri (Greens), both with around 47,000 votes.
In the interview, Bircher says what she was afraid of, what will happen to her National Council mandate and the city council seat in Aarburg and what her new office means for her family. (jk)
