It wasn’t the match of the year but in the end, Monaco and Lille shared the points. At the opening of this eighth day of Ligue 1 2024-2025, Friday, the current leader of the French championship and LOSC separated with a goalless score at Louis-II (0-0).
Still undefeated in the league this season, AS Monaco will have lacked offensive creativity to destabilize a well-established Lille block. At the top of the ranking, the Principality club temporarily widens the gap on the competition but could see Paris Saint-Germain return to its height in the event of a victory against Strasbourg. For the two evening teams, it is now time to prepare for the third day of the Champions League.
On its Rock, AS Monaco did not manage to emerge victorious from the clash against Lille. In fact, the recent respective tormentors of FC Barcelona and Real Madrid in C1 did not offer a fantastic spectacle. Very early in the game, the Monegasque pressure forced the visitors to endure. Aleksandr Golovin (3rd) then Caio Henrique (13th) called on Lucas Chevalier, without forcing the Lille goalkeeper to dirty his jersey. Opposite, only Jonathan David found the target of Radoslaw Majecki (11th) in a very monotonous first period.
Teze sees red, nothing moves
If Jordan Teze would perhaps have deserved to be excluded directly for a dangerous intervention on Ayyoub Bouaddi’s ankle, the Dutch side did not escape the sentence for another clumsy defensive intervention against Gabriel Gudmundsson (61st). Outnumbered for more than half an hour, the Asemists nevertheless continued to move forward and it almost paid off.
On a counter-attack in added time, Maghnes Akliouche served Denis Zakaria at the right tempo, but a reflex save from Chevalier prevented the Monegasque captain from snatching victory for his team.
When the final whistle blows, both teams can be satisfied not to have lost. Against Red Star Belgrade next week, Monaco will have to show better realism. And for Lille, concrete against Atlético de Madrid seems a perilous strategy…
