Julia Ducournau and her controversial cinema

The cinema of Julia Ducournau – inveterate fan of David Cronenberg – remains controversial. In 2021, Titanium had enchanted part of the public, fans of genre films, while the other part remained unmoved. So, when theObs evoked “the affirmation of a filmmaker who vomits the lukewarm and believes, beyond reason, in the powers of cinema,” Liberation regrets that “Julia Ducournau’s second film, as nightmarish as it is messy, passes from disgusting fantasies and disordered repulsions to the arbitrariness of the shaker.

On the occasion of the promotion of Crimes of the Future by David Cronenberg (2022), the actor Viggo Mortensen had not failed to add a layer: “Several years ago it was Crash the Cronenberg which caused a scandal. And without wanting to offend Titanium, according to me, Crash surpasses this film head and shoulders. Because it’s not just a superficial provocation with unconventional images. There is a story behind it, there are real characters that are explored, much more than in Titanium, I think.”

The film Apha (2204) by Julia Ducournau does not yet have a release date.
