Aveyron on orange alert: 80 mm of rain expected in the west and in Rodez, risk of flooding in the south… Update on forecasts

Aveyron is now one of the nine departments placed on orange alert for the day of Thursday October 17, 2024 for a risk of “rain-flooding”, with Lot, Lozère, , Tarn, Ardèche, Corrèze , the Pyrénées-Atlantiques and the Alpes-Maritimes.

The Ségala, Ruthénois and Rouergue sectors will be particularly affected from Wednesday night until Thursday: up to 80 mm of rain is expected, reports the prefecture. At the height of the episode, a real deluge could hit with a fall of 15 mm per hour.

In the south of Aveyron, between 30 and 40 mm are forecast in the Tarn valley sector. This precipitation will be added to what has already fallen since Tuesday evening.

20 municipalities under flood monitoring

Flood vigilance is maintained in several Aveyron municipalities: Ayssenes, Brasc, Broquies, Brousse-le-Château, Compregnac, Connac, Creissels, La Bastide-Solages, Le Truel, , Montclar, Montjaux, Requista, Saint-Georges-de- Luzençon, Saint-Izaire, Saint-Rome-de-Tarn, Saint-Victor-et-Melvieu, Viala-du-Tarn and Villefranche-de-Panat.

By way of a press release, the Aveyron prefecture informs that the Mediterranean episode has already led to spillovers in the Haut Tarn and reactions in the Middle Tarn. “By propagation of upstream floods and in particular from the Tarn which constitutes the majority contribution, water levels should therefore rise in the Millau sector”. Maximum levels could be reached in the evening of Thursday, or even during the night of Friday October 18, 2024.

The greatest caution is recommended around watercourses due to a probable rapid rise and localized overflows.
