Sad news. Pierre Vernier, emblematic figure of French theater and cinema, died this Wednesday October 9 at the age of 93, according to information from Figaro this Saturday, October 12. Born on May 25, 1931, in Saint-Jean d’Angély, under the name Pierre Rayer, he was one of the last members of the 1954 class of the Conservatory of Dramatic Art, which also included cinema icons. like Jean-Paul Belmondo, Jean or even Françoise Fabian. During these years, a strong friendship developed between them.

He was discovered in the eyes of the general public thanks to his role in the soap opera Swiss rolladapted from the work of Ponson du Terrail by Jean-Pierre Décourt. He was then extremely in demand on television. With Jean-Paul Belmondo, they meet regularly on screen or on stage, notably in Sunday friends by Henri Aisner, their first film together released in 1958. Since their meeting, and until Bébel’s death on September 6, his “boyfriend» had always been at his side to surround and support him.

During his career, Pierre Vernier shot no less than sixty feature films for the cinema, with the greatest directors: Marcel Carné (Juliet or the key to dreamsClaude Chabrol (Landru, Ophélia, Betty, The Intoxication of Power…), Denys de la Patellière (Caroline Cherie), Henri Verneuil (Weekend in Zuydcoote, I love Icarus), René Clément (Is burning?), Alain Resnais (Stavisky)Joseph Losey (Monsieur Klein), Georges Lautner (The Guignolo, The Professional, The Unknown in the house), Claude Lelouch (Itinerary of a spoiled child, La Belle Histoire) or even François Ozon (Under the sand). In 2017, he was also in the casting of the film directed by Valérie Lemercier, Marie-Francine. He was thus rewarded with several prizes, notably during the Festival of television creations in Luchon, in 2009, for his interpretation of General De Gaulle in Farewell De Gaulle, farewell, before being named an Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters and was made a Knight of the National Order of Merit in 2016 for his artistic contributions.
