Several towns in the Grand Morin valley (Seine-et-Marne) were still flooded this Friday. The decline was well underway at Coulommiers and Pommeuse. In others, it was barely beginning, as in Crécy-la-Chapelle and Couilly-Pont-aux-Dames.
During the passage of Storm Kirk, 80 mm of water fell in Seine-et-Marne, or 80 liters per square meter. As the land was already waterlogged and the level of the watercourses high, the torrential rains led to flooding, particularly in the towns of La Ferté-Gaucher, Jouy-sur-Morin, Coulommiers, Pommeuse and even Crécy- la-Chapelle.
As of this Wednesday, Grand Morin was placed on red alert for high water and floods. This alert level was still maintained this Friday. But municipalities like Pommeuse had fallen back below the alert threshold. According to the prefecture of Seine-et-Marne, some 1,000 homes are still without electricity: 800 in Crécy-la-Chapelle and 200 in Couilly-Pont-aux-Dames. “Everything will be resolved as the flood recedes,” reassured the state services.
In terms of interventions, firefighters have received a total of 600 alerts related to the storm since it began. They resulted in 200 interventions. Firefighters had to rescue some motorists who had entered flooded lanes and were trapped by the water. No casualties have been reported.
A peak expected this midday in Condé-Ste-Libiaire
At the start of the evening, in Crécy-la-Chapelle, the town hall offered residents affected or deprived of electricity and heating in the town center who wished to join the village gymnasium for the night. In all, nearly 200 people were evacuated as a precaution for the night. The SDIS77 coordinates the engagement of associative resources for pumping and cleaning operations. Reinforcements from Sdis 95 and 78 arrived.
In Couilly-Pont-aux-Dames near Crécy-la-Chapelle, the situation should stabilize in the morning and improve in the early afternoon as the flood recedes. In Condé-Ste-Libiaire (near the confluence with the Marne), the flood peak is expected around midday. In La Ferté-sous-Jouarre, the flood has passed. In Meaux, the flood is expected to recede, while in Chalifert the flood peak is expected in the early evening. Weather-wise, light showers are expected on Saturday October 12, the volume of which should not, according to Météo France forecasters, impact the decline.
Regarding travel, the prefecture also recalls the importance of respecting the diversions put in place and ensuring caution on flooded roads. “Material accidents – not serious – have been recorded (around twenty) particularly linked to aquaplaning phenomena, state services indicate. Firefighters also intervened to bring motorists stranded in their vehicles to safety. » At 8:30 this morning, the department had 53 roads closed and 87 in difficult traffic.
Finally, for those who travel by public transport, please note that following a landslide which occurred this Thursday in Trilport, line P between La Ferté-Milon and Meaux and between Meaux and Château-Thierry (Aisne) is interrupted in both directions. .
