Good news for Christopher Nolan fans: the British-American filmmaker is officially working on his thirteenth feature film, which will succeed Oppenheimer. The director will continue his successful collaboration with Universal, after leaving the Warner Bros. ship. After Tenetwhile his biopic about scientist Robert Oppenheimer raked in almost a billion dollars at the box office last year. And according to Deadlinethere is already a lot of information to know about Christopher Nolan’s next film, for which we even know the release date.

The film in question should mark the third collaboration between Matt Damon and the director, after Interstellar et Oppenheimer. He will thus become one of Nolan’s favorite and recurring actors in the same way as Cillian Murphy and Christian Bale. Unsurprisingly, Nolan will shoot with IMAX cameras for an optimized experience in theaters, filming which should also be launched in early 2025. Finally, Universal has already selected a release date for the film, which will arrive precisely on July 17, 2026 in United States, like most of the director’s films which often arrive during the summer.

The real question obviously remains what the subject of this new feature film will be. Universal and Nolan are keeping this information very secret, but there are several possible options. First, there are the rumors about the next James Bond which we can immediately dismiss (with the acquisition of MGM and its licenses by Amazon Studios in 2022). Then, the director has long talked about his desire to tackle genre and horror cinema. Finally, there is the most likely option, a long-standing dream of the filmmaker: an adaptation of the cult series The Prisonerbroadcast in the 1960s.

Christopher Nolan has a complex history with this adaptation, which he has been working on since 2006. Three years later, he finally abandoned the project with a lot of frustration, since he could not finish the script. And if his thirteenth feature film marked his reunion with his screenwriter brother, Jonathan Nolan, whose last collaboration dates back to Interstellar ? In the meantime, the youngest of the siblings has become an expert in high concept series (Person of Interest, Westworld), dont The Prisoner has always been considered one of the precursors of the genre.
