Cameroon: the Civil Cabinet and the government reassure about the state of health of President Paul Biya

The Minister of Communication and the Minister Director of the Civil Cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic reacted to the rise in rumors and concerns.

The President of the Republic of Cameroon is neither ill nor dead as announced by “malicious people” or “television channels seeking a certain recognition among public opinion”. This is what the Civil Cabinet Director of the Presidency of the Republic, Samuel Mvondo Ayolo, and the government spokesperson, René Emmanuel Sadi, say. In two communications made public on October 8, the two personalities reassured public opinion about the state of the Head of State.

“The Civil Cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic wishes to reassure all our compatriots as well as the international community about the excellent state of health of the Head of State who works and goes about his business in Geneva from where he is not never left since his arrival from Beijing. The President of the Republic left the People’s Republic of China on September 8. He took part in the China-Africa cooperation summit there. A month later, the head of state has not given any news. Hence the speculations and rumors a few months before the presidential election.

For its part, “the government of the Republic affirms unequivocally that these rumors are the fantasy and pure imagination of their authors and intends here to provide a formal denial (…) The government wishes to make it known that the day after the summit China-Africa in which he took an active part, the head of state granted himself a brief private stay in Europe. However, he remains, as usual, and wherever he is, attentive to the evolution of national life.” Thus, the government spokesperson, the Minister of Communication René Emmanuel Sadi goes further. “The head of state is doing well and will return to Cameroon in the coming days.”

Alongside this exit from the government, the political party of which the head of state is president, the RDPC, communicated via social networks. The Secretary of Communication, Minister of State Jacques Fame Ndongo and the Deputy Secretary General, Minister Grégoire Owona have denied rumors of the death of the Head of State. The two officials from the party close to power condemned these announcements and called on institutions to sanction the authors.
