The Alpes-Maritimes Prefecture has announced the closure of establishments open to the public. This is due to the arrival of Hurricane Kirk which is expected to hit the department during the night of Monday October 7 to Tuesday October 8.
The Alpes-Maritimes department was placed under vigilance for rain-flooding from 3 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is also under orange alert for thunderstorms and floods, according to Météo France forecasts. In reaction to this situation, the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosiannounced the activation from 2:30 a.m. this Tuesday of the vigilance cell of the municipal PC as well as the metropolitan coordination post.
Two areas will be particularly monitored : between the Estérel massif and the coast but also the middle country. Up to 100mm of rain is expected.
To ensure the safety of the population, all parks, gardens, cemeteries, beaches and establishments open to the public (nurseries, schools, libraries, museums, etc.) will be closed. The school transport will be suspended. Accommodation measures for homeless people will be taken, with the opening of the Leyrit gymnasium at 9:30 p.m.
The city recommends telework for agents who are not directly involved in crisis management. After the weather event, parks and other infrastructure will remain closed for safety checks.
