???? Inter Miami’s eye story as latest win puts TFC on brink of elimination
Recent Supporters Shield winners Inter Miami put Toronto FC on the verge of missing the playoffs with a 1-0 victory on Saturday.
The hosts welcomed the Herons to Canada for their final game of the season under pressure. Yet Toronto FC paid the price after failing to take advantage of a heavily rotated Miami team.
Manager John Herdman was without Federico Bernardeschi due to suspension, but the talents of Jonathan Osorio, Richie Laryea and Matty Longstaff shone as they helped the hosts record 15 shots to four.
Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez and Sergio Busquets only came on around the hour mark, and just when it looked like the points would be shared and hopes were still alive for the Canadian club, Miami struck.
Suárez received a ball on the left wing and sent it to Leonardo Campana who headed home at the death to silence the fans at BMO Field.
Toronto FC ends the season with 11 wins, four draws and 19 losses. Inter Miami, meanwhile, continues its quest for the most points in MLS regular season history.
Toronto FC will officially be eliminated from playoff contention if DC wins/draws in New England or Philadelphia wins/draws in Columbus.
