Venture capitalist Ben Horowitz said Friday he will make a “significant donation” to entities supporting the Democratic presidential campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris, who is facing Republican former President Donald Trump in the Nov. 5 election .

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

The co-founder of venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz supported Mr. Trump in July. At the time, President Joe Biden was the Democratic nominee. Mr Biden then withdrew following a disastrous debate against Mr Trump and Mr Harris took over.

According to polls, Mr. Trump had pulled ahead of Mr. Biden in key states, which have become very close since Ms. Harris entered the race.

KEY QUOTES

“As I mentioned before, Felicia and I have known Vice President Harris for over 10 years and she has been a great friend to both of us during that time,” the venture capitalist said on X .

“Because of our friendship, Felicia and I will make a significant donation to entities that support Harris Walz’s campaign,” he added, without specifying the amount or the name of the entity.

He added that the company he co-founded has not officially endorsed Harris because Harris has yet to outline a detailed technology policy agenda. He reiterated his frustration with the “exceptionally destructive” technology policies of the Biden administration, of which Mr. Harris is vice president.

“While I have had several conversations with Vice President Harris and her team about their likely technology policies and am encouraged by my confidence in her, they have not yet declared what their technology policy will be, so that the cabinet will not update its position in this regard,” he said.

CONTEXT

Ms. Harris’s campaign has raised far more money than Mr. Trump’s, giving her a clear cash flow advantage as both sides bombard warring states with television ads.
