THE TOPS
As soon as he appeared on the pitch at the Vélodrome, the young Englishman brought danger and was decisive, like his intelligent goal in the 51st minute. It’s even close to a double, but Fofana puts out a nice save. A light in the darkness.
AVERAGE
Since his reintegration into the Olympian squad, the Swiss has shown interesting things on his left lane. Very active throughout the match, he multiplied the crosses with varying degrees of success. He could also have been a decisive passer for Amir Murillo (68′), but the latter was penalized for a handball on his goal.
Apart from a save on a powerful attempt by Abdelli in the first period (33′), the Argentine goalkeeper was not worried by the Angevin attackers. He can do nothing about the equalizing free kick from El Melali (54′).
Returning as captain after his expulsion in Lyon, the Argentinian delivered a satisfactory performance without making any real mistakes, even if he appeared nervous this evening. He was warned again in the 31st minute.
Coming on for the last half hour, the French international did not change the face of the team, but he at least had the merit of revitalizing the midfield a little.
Apart from a well-felt backheel which should have led to a cross from Brassier, he had nothing else to eat during the ten minutes spent on the pitch.
DECEVANT
Solid in the duels, the Canadian international however showed some shortcomings in his ball recovery, losing numerous balls. He gives way to Adrien Rabiot in the 65th minute.
Entered the left-back position, the former Brest player had ten minutes to prove that he was ultimately not capable of playing in this position. Lots of inaccuracies and aborted attacks at the same time.
THE FLOPS
Despite incessant pressure on the Angevin players, the Panamanian made numerous technical errors, particularly in the last thirty meters. He rarely combined with Mason Greenwood on his right side. He could have given OM the advantage in the 68th minute of play, but he was at fault with one hand.
Like his match against Strasbourg, the Danish midfielder was not very inspired this evening. He lost many balls that were interesting for OM. He shined less than since the start of the season and notably made the mistake which led to the Angevin equalizer on a free kick. The Marseille number 23 had a great opportunity to give OM the advantage (82′), but his header narrowly missed Fofana’s target. A few moments later, he completely missed his recovery when he was close to the Angevin goal.
Like Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, the Marseille midfielder was not there this evening. Like last week, he lacked impact in the midfield and did not create enough for his teammates. After the release of Cornelius, he went down a notch alongside Leonardo Balerdi.
As since the start of the season, the young French striker did not create any chances and did not endanger Fofana, the Angevin goalkeeper. A voluntary entry, but difficult…
DISTRESSING
For his first start in the eleven aligned by Roberto De Zerbi, the Argentinian international was not to his advantage. He never created any gaps and therefore did not bring danger to the Angevin defense. He was warned just before the break by the match referee for pressing too hard. His coach decides to replace him after returning from the locker room with Jonathan Rowe.
Like his teammates in the offensive sector, Luis Henrique did not show much. Rarely sharp in his ball handling, we expect more initiative from him. The Brazilian is replaced by Elye Wahi (65′).
This is undoubtedly Mason Greenwood’s worst performance in an Olympian jersey. Although he touched many balls, the English international achieved nothing against the Angevin rearguard. The 23-year-old made a series of bad choices and even penalized his team. A match to forget for the former Mancunian.
Starting in place of Elye Wahi, the French striker did not have much to eat before his expulsion. He leaves his team at ten by receiving two avoidable yellow cards. The first for having hampered Fofana’s race on a restart (27′). The second for letting his foot drag on an Angevin, allowing Mr. Lissorgue to restore the balance between the two teams (30′).
