Contacted by The DeskRachid Benali, president of Comader, expressed a state of uncertainty among operators whose activities risk being impacted by this Friday’s decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) confirming the cancellation of fishing and agricultural agreements between Morocco and the EU. “ We still don’t know how the implementation of this decision will work and we are still waiting to see what will follow. “, indicates this interlocutor, emphasizing that requests for information have been coming one after the other since the morning from European actors, ” who have no visibility ».
On the Moroccan side, however, things are clear. According to the president of Comader, “ It is obvious that the European Union must respect its international commitments. These are commitments that were made by a state group, and on the basis of which partnerships were born between the actors of the ecosystem in Morocco and Europe. ».
Furthermore, Benali continues, “ no agreement can be applied apart from the recognition of the complete sovereignty of Morocco over its entire territory “. In this regard, he adds, the Kingdom’s position has always been clear.
The cancellation of the fishing and agricultural agreements means that fishing and agricultural products from the Moroccan Sahara will no longer be subject to liberalization measures, in particular preferential tariff treatment. The numerous European operators and companies established in the southern provinces of the kingdom therefore risk seeing their activities impacted.
