The U cooperative has confirmed in recent days the takeover of the Casino du Rondeau supermarket following several months of concerns about its future from residents of the area such as elected officials from Échirolles. The current business will close its doors in the coming days to be reborn under the “U express” flag during the second half of November, after work.
This decision and this positive outcome is a real relief in terms of the preservation of local commerce for the sector, the Jean-Jaurès district and elderly residents, those with reduced mobility or even families who will be able to continue to benefit from a essential service to the population, which is part of the quarter-hour city that we support, as well as the amplification of soft mobility.
I also want to salute the mobilization of residents’ associations in the area who spare no effort to consistently defend the future and the well-being of their neighborhood.
Located in a sector which will change in the years to come with the upcoming arrival of the extension of the E tram line, the decision to take over a local supermarket is particularly relevant, particularly under the aegis of a brand favorable to the preservation of the purchasing power of residents.
At the same time, this recovery confirms the attractiveness of our City, and of the Villancourt shopping center, which should reassure other businesses in this area about their future.
Finally, a thought for the employees of the Casino supermarket, who I hope will be taken over as a whole at the end of the work period, and have experienced a particularly difficult period during this period of uncertainty regarding the resumption of their establishment.
