By winning this lot, the largest of the auctions, ENGIE is strengthening its presence in the South American electricity sector since the Group already operates 6,000 km of power lines there, including 2,700 km in Brazil, not counting the 1,000 km under construction.

The electricity network, essential for renewables

The development of the electricity network is essential for Brazil to exploit its enormous potential for renewable energies, which must be connected to consumption areas. The 30-year concession won by ENGIE will serve 60 municipalities in 5 of the most industrialized states in Brazil (Santa Catarina, Paraná, Minas Gerais, São Paulo and Espírito Santo); it also integrates two substations and offers synergies with the Group’s other assets in this region.

The development of electricity transmission is one of the conditions for the success of the energy transition. ENGIE is fully invested in it. With this new victory, ENGIE will have, in less than 10 years, built 8,000 km of electricity network, accompanied by around forty substations. It is also recognition of the teams’ expertise in the development and management of large-scale electrical infrastructure.
