Shanghai: Alcaraz in the third round

The Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, seeded n°3, beat the Chinese Juncheng Shang without being worried by the score (6-2, 6-2) and reached the third round of the Shanghai tournament on Saturday night session, at Qi Shanghai Zhong Tennis Center.

After his 3h21 marathon less than three days ago to win the title in Beijing against Jannik Sinner, Alcaraz did not tremble at all against the rising star of Chinese tennis. He only left two games per set to the recent winner of the Chengdu tournament. This is the 10th consecutive victory for the Spaniard, the 49th in 2024.

“I’m not used to playing against players younger than me. But I’m happy to know that there are many players younger than me, aged 18, 19 or 20. They have a lot of potential. Juncheng plays tennis well. He won his first ATP title. I’m sure he will climb the rankings. He’s going to get better, that’s for sure. I’m happy to be able to win this kind of match. At the net, he said to me “it’s a pleasure to share the court with you”. This kind of thing that I hear from them, for me, it’s great,” rejoiced the main person concerned after the meeting.

Alcaraz, 2nd ATP player in the world, will face Chinese wild card Yibing Wu in the third round of the Chinese tournament.

Shang, 51st in the ATP world, won against wild card Chak Lam Coleman Wong (6-4, 6-4) in the previous round of the Shanghai Masters 1000.
