the world anti-doping agency appeals the verdict and requests one to two years of suspension for Jannik Sinner

The world anti-doping agency announced this Saturday that it would appeal in the case of Jannik Sinner who had been cleared after testing positive. She requests a suspension of one to two years for the tennis player, world number one.

Jannik Sinner is perhaps not finished with his setbacks. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) announced that it had filed an appeal on Thursday in the case of Jannik Sinner, cleared by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (Itia) after testing positive twice for clostebol, a banned substance. , last March.

In its press release, the body “considers that the conclusion of absence of fault or negligence was not correct with regard to the applicable rules” and, consequently, “WADA requests a suspension period of one to two years” for the Italian player, without these results since his positive tests, including his victory at the US Open, being canceled.

The proceeding “does not seek the disqualification of any result, except that which has already been imposed by the trial court.”

The player explained that he had been contaminated without his knowledge by a spray

Jannik Sinner justified himself by explaining that the substance had been ingested following the use of a spray for a wound on his finger by his physiotherapist. This product, available in Italy, contained clostebol: “The team member applied the spray between March 5 and 13, during which he also provided daily massages and sports therapy to Sinner, which resulted in transdermal contamination.

“After each positive test, a provisional suspension was applied. In both cases, Sinner successfully appealed the provisional suspension and was therefore able to continue playing,” explained the ITIA in a press release. The Italian was therefore cleared.
