Tennis: the Rodez Christmas tournament is in full swing in Vabre

Unlike many tournaments in , the Ruthenian winter event is experiencing positive dynamics in terms of participants.

It has become a habit during the end-of-year holiday period on the Piton. Since mid-December, and until Saturday, the indoor courts of the Vabre complex have been taken over by the Christmas tournament organized by the padel club. For this edition straddling between 2024 and 2025, there are no less than 212 participants in the four tables (male, female, as well as the two reserved for over 35s), a nice increase, since There were around 190 last year.

Something to delight the organizing president, Stéphane Zielinski: We are happy, because it has been a long time since we had more than 205 participants. There was a crowd which surprised us a little, because at the level of the FFT (French Tennis Federation, Editor’s note)everyone tells us that it's not very violent in terms of tournament registrations, that it's mixed. But for us, it's a classic that comes back during the holiday season and I think people are a little attached to this tournament.

The finals scheduled for Saturday afternoon

Among those registered, we find several tennis players from Aveyron, including Capdenacois Léo Cazor (ranked 2/6), member of the team which managed to stay in Nationale 3 last summer, or even Ruthénois Martin Grand (2/ 6), Baptiste Pissot and Fabien Cammas (3/6), among the men. A table in which the main favorites come from outside the walls of the department, since we find four players in the negative ranking, including one – 15, the best rank competing in the tournament, in the person of Allan Deschamps ().

Among the women, the 15-year-old Villefranche hopeful, Maya Bories, unfortunate finalist of the last edition against Emma Bousquet, resident of La Grande-Motte, is missing, while the Ruthenois Charlène Roualdès (15) and Léa Bécamel (15) are, among others, very present. If the finals will take place on Saturday afternoon, the tournament will continue in full swing throughout the week, with only a break on the afternoon of December 31 and January 1, just to extend the Christmas celebrations a little further. end of the year !
