The protective bubble of the Chinon Tennis courts did not resist the gusts of wind. It exploded around 3:30 p.m. this Thursday, November 21, 2024.
Two young people were in the locker room at that precise moment. Seeing the bubble move in the wind, they did not venture onto the courts. There were therefore no injuries.
A precedent in 2009
This is not the first time that the bubble has burst. Already in 2009, it had collapsed due to the wind. It had been replaced by a tarpaulin which belonged to a bankrupt club in Lochois.
Éric Maucourt, deputy to the City of Chinon, ensures that the controls were in order. “There were audits not long ago. She had no weakness. »
“Instructors risk finding themselves unemployed”
For the tennis club, we will have to reorganize. “The winter tournament during the February holidays and the final of the Indre-et-Loire senior individual championship in March risk being compromised, and the instructors may find themselves unemployed”sighs Alain Denis, secretary of the tennis club.
The surroundings of the tennis court will be secured with concrete pads until a lasting solution is found. The municipality will study the possibility of having licensees play in gymnasiums or other infrastructures. In 2009, it was necessary “six to nine months” so that the tennis club finds its bubble, remembers Alain Denis.
Trees and a swimming pool shelter torn down
At the start of the evening, municipal police closed access to Place Tiverton and the Promenade des Docteurs-Mattrais “until further notice”. A decision taken as a precaution due to strong gusts of wind.
In the rest of the city, several trees were uprooted and fell onto the roadway. An element of the swimming pool shelter at the Ibis hotel was also blown away by the wind, without causing any injuries.
