Defeated in two sets (6−4, 6–4), Taylor was not a strong contender. On the contrary, he really forced Jannik to offer his best . The match was intense and the Italian, a step above, logically took the “lead” in the important moments.

At a press conference, Taylor who is now 4th in the world ranking wanted to remain positive rather than complaining.

« It's interesting having to play Jannik twice, obviously. That's kind of what I said after the first game we played: I feel like I can take a lot of positives from this game. Not only is he the best player in the world, but he is currently playing at an extremely high level. I think a lot of people would say the most impressive part of his game is the way he is in the baseline, from the baseline. Today I felt like, except when the balls were pretty worn out, that he could really have a little more time to work on me. For me, the time when I feel the most lost on the court is when I can't find a way to win from the baseline. This part is encouraging. I felt like I could hold my own in this area. I mean, it's great to play against someone who's better than you, because you really see the things you need to improve.”
