ATP > Marin Cilic: “Tennis was a bit cruel with Federer, Nadal and Murray. They gave a lot to this sport, and yet everything was gone in a second”

Back at the high level after a double knee operation, Marin Cilic, current 196e world and titled in China last month, gave a long and beautiful interview to our colleagues at Majors.

Asked about his retirement, the Croatian, who does not want to hear about it for the moment, could not help but mention those of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray, all three caught up by their bodies.

“With Roger, Andy and Rafa, it happened very suddenly. You never know, it's like life. You have to do your best. I think it's a bit of a shame to see Roger and Rafa doing well and then to be eliminated like that. It's the same for Andy when he was at the top and had to have those hip surgeries. The sport was a little cruel to them: they gave a lot to this sport, and yet it was all gone in a second. I hope I can still be competitive, just to give myself a chance. I would like to play two or three more seasons. I will try to adjust the calendar by perhaps playing fewer tournaments. The motivation is still there. »
