Renowned for its wide selection of films on demand, the Plex streaming application is still evolving to satisfy Apple TV users.
It has now been a few months since the mobile version of Plex was launched, but it is indeed on Apple TV that this streaming application intends to develop the most. In fact, it has launched a test phase which introduces many new features for promote the social dimension of the application, while improving the interface to make it clearer. We take stock.
A major visual overhaul for the Plex app on Apple TV
That's it, we finally know what it will look like the “revamped” version of Plex on the big screen. And the least we can say is that there are many notable changes.
To begin with, we can notice that the navigation bar now allows access to live TV and VOD rentals. Although it is possible to deactivate these options to only show personal libraryas is already the case on the mobile version. The company has also published a blog post to invite users to give their opinion:
“Please keep in mind that it's not close to being perfectbut we want to get feedback from the community as soon as possible. »

The social aspect highlighted
If you like to check reviews from other viewers before watching a movie, Plex's new interface should be perfect for you. In fact, it will display movie and TV reviews if you allow it in the privacy settings. Like the Letterboxd platform which is enjoying some success among movie buffs.
Plex also specifies that in “making your profile publicly available on watch.plex.tv, you can easily share a link to your profile with others so so they can see what you watchedwhat's on your watchlist, and more ». Interesting.
And finally, there are some technical improvements to note such as the appearance of HEVC encoding, offering “better visual quality at the same bit rate, which allows higher quality video on the same bandwidth (or lower bandwidth) for streaming from your Plex media server ». Enough to allow it, perhaps, to compete in the same category as these streaming platforms.
So this should help Plex to make a name for yourself amid the many streaming and TV applications that have taken the market by storm over the last ten years, and which are still going strong. But then, will that be enough to overshadowing the behemoths of the sector ? Nothing is less certain…
