an ultra-thin design and water resistance are on the program

Oppo has just revealed some of the promising features for its upcoming Find N5 foldable smartphone, which will be marketed as OnePlus Open 2 in select international markets, including .

With the next Oppo Find N5, which we will know at home under the name OnePlus Open 2, the emphasis will be placed on unprecedented water resistance in the foldable smartphone segment. Zhou Yibao, product manager at Oppo, shared a demonstration of the Find N5 submerged in water on Weibo, confirming triple certification IPX6, IPX8 and IPX9.

This last certification, particularly remarkable, guarantees resistance to high temperature and high pressure water jets, thus following the trend initiated by the OnePlus 13. It would therefore be the first foldable smartphone to obtain so many certifications in this area.

The OnePlus Open 2 will be the thinnest smartphone in the world

Beyond its waterproof capabilities, the OnePlus Open 2 will stand out for its exceptionally thin design. Photos shared by Oppo reveal that the unfolded device is only slightly thicker than a USB-C port, at around 4 millimeters. To put this technical feat into perspective, Zhou Yibao compared the thickness of the smartphone to various everyday objects: two Chinese coins, four overlapping identity cards, or even 39 post-its.

The previews of the external and internal screens also show notable developments. The external screen sports thinner bezels than its predecessor, while the internal screen maintains a similar format to the Find N3/OnePlus Open, with the front camera still positioned in the upper right corner.

If these characteristics are confirmed during the official launch planned for next month in Chinathe Find N5/OnePlus Open 2 could seriously shake up the competition, notably Samsung and Google in the foldable smartphone market. The device succeeds the Find N3 (number 4 having been avoided due to its negative connotation in China), which had already made an impression during its international release under the OnePlus brand.

The only gray area remains protection against dust, a challenge that the foldable smartphone industry has still not managed to meet satisfactorily. We expect the OnePlus Open 2 to be launched here after the Mobile World Congress 2025, which will take place in March this year.
