In addition to the release of the Nintendo Switch 2, which should cause a lot of noise, the year 2025 promises to be that of major licenses as well as that of returns that we no longer dared hope for, accompanied by a few video game UFOs which may well make people talk about them.
GTA VI, THE RETURN OF THE KING
Impossible to list the most anticipated games of 2025 without mentioning GTA VI, the new opus of the most important license in the history of video games. After the overwhelming domination of GTA V, still among the most played and sold titles twelve years after its release, Rockstar returns with a new dive into Vice City, its acid pastiche of Miami. This sixth opus promises a duo of protagonists inspired by Bonnie and Clyde, an ambitious narrative structure and a satirical look at the United States today. Expectations are dizzying: how will Rockstar deal with hot topics such as digital culture, social networks or the extreme polarization of American society? Answer probably at the end of the year on nextgen consoles.
MONSTER HUNTER WILD, THE HUNT IS ON
Capcom is also preparing to hit hard with Monster Hunter Wild. After a Monster Hunter World which won over the general public in 2018 with its more accessible approach and its interconnected environments, and a Monster Hunter Rise which brought a new verticality thanks to the Filoptère, Wild seems to want to push the limits further. Early information hints at an even larger, more organic world, where flora and fauna dynamically interact with the gigantic creatures the series is known for. And you won’t have to wait long to get back on the hunt for what promises to be a must-have of the year since the release date is set for February 28, on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series.
KINGDOM COME: DELIVERANCE II, HISTORY IN THE MARCH
Among the titles to watch closely in 2025, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is an ambitious challenger. The sequel to the medieval RPG from Warhorse Studios promises to bring back what made the first opus successful: an open world of rare historical authenticity, a complex narrative and realistic survival mechanics. With a larger map, ever more demanding combat and a plot that explores the aftermath of the tumultuous events in the Kingdom of Bohemia, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II could well establish itself as an essential reference in adventure gaming. Here again, the wait will be short because the game arrives on PC on February 4.
ROOM FOR BOLDNESS
If the big titles (Assassin’s Creed Shadow, Avowed, Pokémon Legends: ZA, Death Stranding 2, Path of Exile 2, Civilization VII) take the lion’s share, 2025 also reserves a place of choice for innovative experiences. We think, for example, of Cairn, which transforms climbing into an introspective and technical adventure, forcing the player to manage each movement, each hold, and even the wear and tear of their equipment. In a completely different register, Baby Steps gambles on the absurd by giving the player the hilarious and frustrating task of controlling the legs of a clumsy adult to perform the banal act of walking. In terms of artistically significant universes, South of Midnight and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 stand out for their visual and narrative direction. Added to this are projects like Elden Ring: Nightreign, which reinvents the formula of the immense original game by adding cooperation, or the highly anticipated Slay the Spire 2, which promises to reinvent the deck-building genre without give in to the sirens of microtransactions.
